Teen taken into custody following fatal accident in Texas

Authorities in Texas have reported that a 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with a Feb. 10 accident that claimed the life of a 51-year-old man.

The Springtown resident lost his life after his stationary van was struck by a pickup truck in Fort Worth. The accused is facing a charge of criminally negligent homicide.
The accident took place on the service road of Northwest Loop at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police say that it is unclear if the man was standing by his vehicle or sitting inside it when it was struck by a pickup truck driven by the boy. The man’s van was stationary because it had broken down. Police have reported that excessive speed was likely a contributing factor.

Paramedics transported the badly injured man to an area hospital, but he was pronounced dead a few hours later. The cause of death was given as blunt force trauma resulting from an accident by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Fort Worth police say that the teen remained at the scene following the collision.

The family members of those killed in a road traffic accident often face severe financial hardship when a relied upon source of household income is lost. Their situation may then become even more challenging as they struggle to cope with unexpected medical expenses and funeral costs. When their loss is caused by the negligent actions of others, a personal injury attorney may file a wrongful death lawsuit on their behalf. If the individual responsible for causing the accident is killed or incarcerated, this litigation may be brought against their estate or representative.
