Children injured in pedestrian accident near downtown Houston

In some cases, after an injurious or fatal auto accident, the collection of evidence has to go beyond a police investigation, particularly when the driver in a crash isn’t cited or charged with a crime.

Further investigation may be especially important after accidents in which victims are killed or left unable to communicate their side of the story.
With these issues in mind, let’s consider a recent pedestrian accident in Houston that injured two boys who were trying to cross a busy street.

Houston residents know that Allen Parkway near downtown can see a flurry of vehicles during rush hour, but the risk of a wreck on this road isn’t limited to the busiest times of the day. Motorists regularly exceed the speed limit of 40 miles per hour, no matter what time it is.

On March 18, three boys were trying to cross Allen Parkway when two of the boys were hit by a minivan. Police say the boys were not using a crosswalk, and the driver was not cited for any violations. An officer with the Houston Police Department pointed out that the accident happened not far from a pedestrian bridge.

However, illegal crossing in the area is a common occurrence, and this fact combined with frequent speeding on Allen Parkway can clearly be a recipe for disaster. It should be noted that the speed of the minivan was not reported.

One of the boys injured in the accident was said to have suffered a serious head injury, and both children were taken to a hospital.

Many roads in Houston and throughout Texas are not conducive to pedestrian safety. When drivers speed or otherwise drive negligently, the risk of injury is compounded.
